This Rockville renovation is a perfect example of how thoughtful design-build execution can completely redefine how a home lives—without compromising its original character.

The homeowners came to us looking to expand their living space with intention. They wanted a dedicated formal dining room and a comfortable, light-filled family room that could double as a curated space to display meaningful artwork. At the same time, the existing exterior—an aging wood deck and underutilized patio—no longer matched their lifestyle or expectations.

Our approach began by reimagining the rear of the home as a cohesive, integrated experience.

We removed the original deck and sunken patio to make way for a thoughtfully designed addition that now houses a bright and inviting family room. The architecture was carefully scaled to feel like a natural extension of the home—both inside and out.

Inside, the transformation is immediate. The new family room is flooded with natural light, anchored by a stunning 12-foot, four-panel sliding glass door that creates a seamless transition to the outdoor living space.

Above, strategically placed skylights introduce soft, even daylight from above—ensuring the room remains bright throughout the day while enhancing the display of artwork along the walls.

With the new addition in place, the original living room was repurposed into a dedicated dining space—bringing a sense of structure, elegance, and purpose to the overall layout. The flow between spaces now feels intuitive and refined.
