A deck and three-season porch made for living outside
For this Ellicott City home, we replaced the existing deck with an outdoor living space designed for more ways to relax and entertain. The new three-season porch features four-track window panels, solar-powered venting skylights with solar-powered internal blinds, ceiling fans, Sonos speakers, and a wall-mounted TV. It is just as welcoming for morning coffee and the news as it is for an evening movie.
An adjoining TimberTech PVC deck offers open-air space for grilling and gathering. Below the porch, a covered paver patio adds another place to spend time outdoors, complete with lighting, speakers, and a ceiling fan. Together, the three spaces give the homeowners more ways to enjoy their home throughout the day.
The homeowners wanted to turn their existing deck into a more versatile outdoor living space: somewhere they could enjoy a sunny afternoon, dine comfortably under cover, or settle in with coffee and the morning news. We replaced the old deck and designed a connected three-season porch, open deck, and covered paver patio, each with its own purpose.
The three-season porch feels like an extension of the home. Four-track window panels let the homeowners welcome a breeze or close the space when the weather changes. Horizontal shiplap walls, TimberTech PVC porch flooring, and a finished tongue-and-groove ceiling create a warm setting for dining and relaxing. Above, solar-powered Velux skylights open for ventilation and have internal blinds that can be adjusted to manage the sunlight.
This is a space designed to be used, not simply admired. Ceiling fans and recessed lighting help keep the porch comfortable from morning into evening. Sonos speakers provide music for dinner or quiet afternoons, while a wall-mounted TV makes it easy to watch the news over coffee or enjoy a movie together.
Just outside, the spacious TimberTech PVC deck offers room for grilling, lounging, and gathering in the sunshine. Coordinated aluminum railings visually connect the deck and porch. Beneath the three-season room, a paver patio creates another covered outdoor space with its own lighting, speakers, and ceiling fan. Storage beneath the uncovered portion of the deck makes practical use of the remaining space.
The result is an outdoor living area that adapts to the moment: a bright porch, an open deck, and a sheltered patio, all connected to the way the homeowners want to live.
